When ye fast

Dear friends

Do you like fasting?

I mean, none of us probably likes it as in enjoying it, right? It is a sacrifice after all and sacrifices are (meant to be)costly.

But do you like the rewards and positive “side effects”?

Me, I do.

And although I am not supposed to tell anyone, I am currently fasting and I am hoping for GOD to reward me for it.

In fact, if I had to give advice to someone on how to get something from GOD, it would be that the more you are willing to fast, the more likely it is that GOD will hear you – at least that’s what has been true for me.

And it is also in the book:

Matthew 6:16-21

16 Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;

18 That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

Isaiah 58:6

Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?”

Matthew 17:21

“Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.”

2 Chronicles 7:14:
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

So when we look at these 4 scriptures, we can clearly see that fasting is connected with promised results!

#1 to be rewarded openly by GOD

#2 to be freed from oppression, from a heavy burden

#3 to be delivered from a very stubborn evil spirit which only goes out by prayer and fasting (and cannot even be cast out)

#4 forgiveness of sins and healing of our land

There you have it my friend.

Do you need any of the above?

Or is it fair to say that we ALWAYS need ALL of the above and when we have a petition, it is so often one of the above…?

So why would we not fast?

When I look at my own life, this current year is a year when GOD has granted me many breakthroughs and I can sense in my spirit that HE is about to grant me another BIG, BIG desire of my heart. But this current year is also a year when hardly a time went by when I was NOT fasting!

There is a direct connection.

I am not the only one who is promoting a “fasted life”- not only is it good to keep our flesh “in check”. And this is much needed if we want to walk with GOD. Because the devil is not our #1 enemy – it is actually our own flesh! This is where the devil always attacks and this is where he will always get us – or not, if and when we are able to control ourselves.
Any plot of the devil will remain just that if we are able to control ourselves and not give in to our carnal desires – I mean it friends, regardless of what it is, be it lust, be it envy, be it anger, be it gossip – we can control it and refrain from acting on it – IF we are the master of our flesh and if we refuse to let the “carnal man” in us run the show!

Of course this is not easy.

Me personally, I am as carnal as it gets if I am uncontrolled!

This is exactly what got me into so much spiritual trouble, even after becoming born again.

And I am not the only one, in fact, mankind is in the situation we are in spiritually because of carnality, because of the flesh, because of lust. If it hadn’t been for the carnality in Eve, she would not have been seduced by the serpent, right?

This happens all over the world over and over again every day – and especially every night! People give in to their carnal urges and lose their marriages, lose their holiness, lose their money, lose their reputation, even their ministries… because of the flesh.

And I personally came to see that I will never be the master of my flesh without constantly putting it down – by fasting. And when I am not on a long fast, I need to fast at least once, better twice a week – IF I don’t want to lose the fight against my flesh.

My assumption is that this is the case for all of us.

Even JESUS was fasting for 40 days when HE started HIS ministry!

Do we really believe we don’t need to fast?

If GOD HIMSELF was fasting and praying, how else are we expecting to achieve anything spiritually?

Perhaps your spiritual life needs no further evolvement and perhaps GOD is always answering all your prayers? If that is so, perhaps you are the exception and don’t need to offer sacrifices to HIM so that HE will hear you and come closer to you…? But for the rest of us, fasting is a useful spiritual discipline and I highly recommend it to you, my friend, especially during times when you want GOD to do something for you!

I am curious, have you ever tried it, my friend?
Has GOD perhaps even called you to do a fast?
What kind of a fast did you do?
And how long for?
What was your result and your testimony?
Please share in the comments below to encourage us all.

I hope and pray that this will encourage, inspire, heal and bless you. And that THE LORD will bless you abundantly in all areas of your life and that HE will keep you and shine HIS face upon you and bring you PEACE. In JESUS’ name I pray! AMEN.
