have you ever been in love?
Or loved someone as a friend?
And then, for some reason, you decided to leave this person?
I know I have.
I’ve done it a lot.
Especially before I became born again, but also after – even in the name of THE LORD, when they were unbelievers and I realized that I had failed in convincing them that they need JESUS in their life.
And this may exactly have been where I went wrong.
When I thought I had failed… perhaps I had just not tried long enough?
We (I) leave people for various reasons:
because they disappoint us, because being with them is not what we thought it would be like, because we cannot get along with each other, because we get bored when we know someone too well, because they cheat on us, betray us, lie to us, let us down, hurt us… and then, we stop loving them.
I am talking about US here.
Not about YOU.
About ALL OF US.
And GOD told me something today, something which shook me to the core:
HE said: “love is not a feeling.”
And I couldn’t believe this and did not understand at all…
But then HE even went on:
” love is a decision.”
This blew my mind.
And I got it.
Not from my own deeds and words and feelings – the only way I could grasp this was from the receiving side, when I thought about how GOD loves, how HE loves ME, not about how I love others.
Because my love is not unconditional.
My love has conditions.
My love can be withdrawn and it can die, which makes it temporary and cheap and fake – compared to HIS love, compared to GOD’s love.
HE will never leave, will always forgive, will always be there, will always listen, will always understand, will always love.
I am humbled and embarrassed at the same time…
Towards people and towards GOD.
What I thought love is, what I even thought was love when I gave it or said it, is actually not love.
LOVE IS A DECISION.
NOT a feeling.
I have a lot to learn about love.
And when I think of GOD’s love towards me, towards us, I am not sure if I will ever be able to love like that… but I can definitely become more loving and less conditional and most certainly less judgemental.
Towards men – and towards GOD!
1 Corinthians 13: 4-8
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
What would change if we loved like GOD?
If we just never, ever stopped loving someone no matter what they would do or say…?
Could we even love them if they did all these things?
Or could we even love GOD if HE never, ever did anything for us?
Unimaginable what this world would become. If we could..
If we could just love no matter what.
Like GOD can.
Can you see the earth when this would happen?
Perhaps you have seen someone who can love like that?
Me, I am thinking of a pastor I know…. I think he is unable to think any negative thought about anyone – he is the most loving person I have met… I think his heart is almost like JESUS’ when it comes to love… when I imagine what this world would be like if we had only people like him, with this kind of love in their hearts….
No more lies, no more heartache, no more injustice, unfairness, betrayal, violence…
Oh GOD have mercy on us!!!!
One thing is sure, without GOD’s help, we won’t be able to do that, none of us will.
My friend, if you don’t know JESUS CHRIST, if you have not given your life to HIM, please don’t wait any longer.
GOD is real and HIS love can heal you, free you and change every circumstance in your life for the better.
If you want to give your life to HIM right here and right now, you can pray this prayer:
“Dear Heavenly Father, I acknowledge and confess that I have not lived my life for YOU to this day, but have been living for myself and in sin and that is wrong. Please forgive me of all of my sins just as I forgive others. I need YOU in my life; I want YOU in my life.
I recognize the completed work of YOUR only begotten Son JESUS CHRIST in giving HIS life for me on the cross, I believe in my heart JESUS is LORD and that HE was raised from the dead and ask for YOUR forgiveness, which YOU have made freely available to me through this sacrifice.
Come into my life now, LORD!
Take up residence in my heart and be my KING, my LORD, and my SAVIOUR!
From this day forward, I will no longer be controlled by sin, or the desire to please myself, but I will follow YOU all the days of my life. Those days are in YOUR hands.
I ask this Jesus name.
If you have just prayed this prayer, you are now part of GOD’s kingdom and family and I heartily welcome you, my dear brother or sister!
The next thing to do is get a bible and find a church where you can receive further instructions, so that your new life in THE LORD may prosper and that you will become who HE made you to be.
GOD bless you and if you have any questions or need any assistance, please get in touch.
I hope and pray that this will bless, heal and inspire you. And that THE LORD will bless you abundantly in all areas of your life, that HE will keep you and shine HIS face upon you, and bring you peace. In JESUS’ name I pray. AMEN.
