Dear friends,
did you come across these words of Jesus?
He who loses his life for my sake shall find it… in Matthew 10
Matthew 10: 38-39
38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.
I always wonder what this means?
It is one of those parables I don’t find easy to comprehend. Have been meditating about it a lot… have you?
If you have, what did you find?
Me, when I ask myself how to interpret this word of GOD, I normally begin backwards, in the end… to when HE says that he who lost his life for HIS sake shall find it what does HE mean?
Does HE mean this person will find their life here or eternal life?
Eternal life is one of the promises for giving our lives to HIM, isn’t it?
So is that what is meant?
That we shall receive the promise if we lose our lives here?
Actually, I don’t think so.
I don’t think so because it is already promised and even if someone gave their life to HIM in the last minute of their life on earth, they would still go to heaven – at least in my understanding?
OR is this regarding our earthly life, the one we will gain when we are born again?
But then again, we are receiving a new life when we are being born again, including the promise of eternal life – why would we then still have to find this?
Logically, it can only be another life HE is talking about here… and as far as I got it (perhaps I am wrong or slow on the uptake here), HE is talking about the life we will FIND here on earth when we have lost our life for HIM, when we have decided to follow HIM and take(n) up our cross…
Or even the life after that???!!!?!?!?!
When I was born again a little more than 4 years ago, I really did feel like a new creature – and like a baby, too… or perhaps more like a clumsy puppy – I was running around, happy, friendly to everyone and I thought now, I only have to find my brothers and sisters in Christ and everything will be fine for the rest of my life.
Anyone with me?
Anyone got some bruises like me from taking the wrong turns as well?
Boy was I wrong.
Up to now – even after the most intense searching for more than a year now, I haven’t even been able to find a church which isn’t too corrupt for me to stay there.
And I have been very disappointed by Christians.
Not complaining, only trying to let you walk along my path and show you what I’ve seen…
Just to demonstrate that logic or our own understanding doesn’t work, at least can we not build or find a life that way. Not like if we let HIM build and lead our life.
So from what I learned, it is a path, a walk and we find new lives all the time…
I would say for my life, the more I learn to give things away and over to HIM, the more I FIND the life HE seems to have for me.
And this happens in layers.
Area by area or topic by topic.
And I am learning…
Learning to listen.
Learning to let go.
To let go and let GOD.
Learning to understand that I don’t understand, that I don’t have the answers.
Learning to walk by faith and not by sight.
Because when I walk by sight and by what I understand and by what I think is the best thing to do and when I think I have it all figured out – that’s when I fail, that’s when I get hurt, that’s when I get my lunch eaten by someone (by a representation of the enemy- in the flesh or in form of thoughts / dreams / other discouragements).
So what I understand nowadays from this is that ‘the life we find’ is not just one life and that finding it is not a one time event.
But that we have to lose our life over and over again… in order to find it.
How about you, my friend?
Does this parable speak to you?
Have you found a way for yourself to understand it?
And have you found your life?
I hope and pray this will inspire, heal and bless you. And I hope and pray that THE LORD will bless you abundantly in all areas of your life. That HE will keep you and shine HIS face upon you and bring you peace. in JESUS’ name I pray. AMEN.
