The power of intercession

What does intercession mean?

To intercede means to pray on behalf of another.

And why would we do that?

Well, it’s quite understandable when the other person is a loved one or a member of our church we want to support.

And yet, we are supposed to pray for our enemies, too.
As hard as it sometimes may be.

Matthew 5:44
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

Even love them.

That’s right.
Love them, bless them, do good to them and pray for them.

First, we must forgive them, of course.

Let me tell you this:
if you have hate or bitterness or are holding a grudge against anyone, no matter what they have done to you (!!!), your prayers will NOT be answered.
I repeat, they will not be answered!

It’s in the book!
We MUST forgive first, otherwise OUR FATHER will not forgive us and our prayers will be hindered.

Mark 11:25
And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
Matthew 18
please read the entire chapter!

After all, it is what JESUS does.
All the time.
After what HE has done on earth for us, HE is now interceding for us in heaven.

Hebrews 7:25
Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

Without this, we would never make it to heaven.
At least that’s my conviction.
I believe we all need constant intercession and forgiveness, no matter how righteous we ourselves believe we are. I believe we can not attain the holiness it takes to be allowed to go to heaven by ourselves or by our own deeds or prayers, we need JESUS and THE HOLY SPIRIT to intercede for us.

And since the life of a Christian is striving to become as much as we can like our LORD, JESUS CHRIST, intercession is something we can not neglect.

It is what GOD OUR FATHER wants us to do.

And for me personally, it was hard to start doing it, but as soon as I did, I immediately felt PEACE come upon me, peace from the attacks of the enemy, peace from worries, peace from anxieties about daily life… in fact, that’s enough for me.

Enough for me to know that MY FATHER wants me to intercede on behalf of just about anyone and anything.

The reward is INSTANT and the reward is PEACE.

Who doesn’t want or need INSTANT PEACE???

Why not try it?
Even if it’s only for the reward’s sake?
I am sure you will like it and then become an intercessor 🙂
And I am sure it can’t hurt to give it a try anyway, even if it will be an experience you won’t want to have all the time, it can surely and most definitely not hurt anyone – not the person(s) you will intercede for and also not yourself.

Final thought:
what if you had prayed for someone and they got healed or saved?
How do you think THAT would make you feel?
Can you imagine the joy?
And after all, how are you going to get proof of any of your gifts or “signs which follow those who believe” if you never pray for others?

Mark 16: 17-18
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

I pray that you will be blessed and inspired by this article and that GOD will bless you richly in every area of your life. And that HE will keep you and shine HIS face upon you and bring you peace. In JESUS’ name. Amen.

  1. Absolute truth. People don’t understand how they hinder their own prayers when they refuse to forgive.
