Be still…

Dear friends,

do you have a favorite scripture?

Which one is it???

Me, I have many 🙂

But one of my favouretest favorite ones is

Psalm 46.
46 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.
4 There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.
God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.
The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.
The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
Come, behold the works of the Lord, what desolations he hath made in the earth.
He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire.
10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
11 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

I love the entire psalm. It is so poetic and epic and metaphorical and mystical and beautiful and supernatural…

when I read it or hear it, it sparks an entire world of nature to appear before my mind’s eyes – or maybe my spiritual eyes, even though I tend to not see many pictures when I have visions – and normally, they are not as beautiful…

This one is as if it was a vision created by The Holy Spirit only to show the beauty of God. Of His creation, of His power and of His glory…

At least that’s what happens in me when I read this.

I am in awe…

And then the first part of Verse 10:

Be still and know that I am GOD.

This is one of my “core” sentences from and about GOD.

I hear it a lot.

In all kinds of situations.

When I experience HIS power – in my life or in someone else’s life.

And when I am aware of my own powerlessness – not necessarily in an unpleasant way though… sometimes, I am aware that He can do anything, much more and even much better things than me, would I succeed at all my endeavors –  which I don’t –  just like you, I suppose… or if you do, you succeed a lot more than me.

And then there are times when I don’t even understand my own life or a situation I am in.

That’s when I hear it…

And that’s when I know that there is nothing I can do at the moment.

But be still.

And do what He tells me to do.

Be still and know that HE is GOD.

It gives me peace.

Comfort.

I am still freaking out somehow in a way to a degree –  if you know what I mean? – but at the same time, I am absolutely calm.
Settled.
Surrendered.
At rest.
In HIS arms…

Strolling through this landscape that comes to mind when I hear the words “there is a river, the streams thereof shall make glad the city of God” –  in my imagination, it is a beautiful river and I understand it as the river of living waters, which is also mentioned in the bible – and in my imagination, it is the most beautiful place to be… refreshing… for body and spirit…

And then, I also imagine that the psalmist is talking about ME when he says in Verse 5:

God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.

I know he was most likely talking about the city of God… but I take this passage personally –  like I do many other passages –  and I like the idea that GOD is in the midst of ME.
In fact, I love the idea!
And that’s how I want to live my life.
With God in the midst of me, in my center, in my heart, in my innermost being…

Just some of what I feel and see when I read this beautiful psalm… and the rest has no words… when I am still…

Are you ever still… and know that HE is GOD?

What comes to your mind or to your mind’s eyes when you read this psalm, my friend?

Or when you read your favorite scripture?

I hope that this will bless, inspire and heal you. And that THE LORD will bless you abundantly in all areas of your life, that HE will keep you and shine HIS face upon you and bring you peace. In JESUS’ name I pray. Amen.

  1. Psalm 42:11 in The Passion translation is my current favorite :

So I say to my soul, “Don’t be discouraged. Don’t be disturbed. For I know my God will break through for me.” Then I’ll have plenty of reasons to praise him all over again. Yes, living before his face is my saving grace!

    1. Good one, my dear sister,

That’s my go-to-place whenever anyone (the enemy, some negative people or me myself being that negative person) is trying to make me believe that I will fail…
What happens inside me when I read this one is that it feels like a „shield“ is forming around the idea or belief that doubts are trying to destroy… and I am able to focus solely on what I want to create/ on the things inside the shield…
What does it trigger in you when you ponder on this scripture or meditate upon it or read it???
Thank you for commenting and sharing 💕
